Bylaws


ARTICLE I. INTRODUCTION

The name of this corporation shall be the Maine Yacht Racing Association, Inc., doing business as Northeast Sailing Association. These By Laws constitute the code of rules adopted by the Maine Yacht Racing Association (d.b.a. Northeast Sailing Association) for the regulation and management of affairs.

 ARTICLE II. OBJECTIVES AND PURPOSES

The Northeast Sailing Association is a non-profit corporation composed of yacht clubs, sailing clubs, associations and other organizations interested in encouraging the support of sailing and sailboat racing to include but not limited to:

- Fostering national and international racing competition among sailing yachts;

- Prescriping, promulgating and enforcing rules and standards in yacht racing competition;

- Sponsoring local, regional and national yacht racing competition by selecting participants to national championship or

International yacht racing including but not limited to the Congressional Cup, Pan American Games and Olympic games

and the United States Sailing Association Senior and Junior Championships;

- Disseminating information concerning new developments and new techniques in the construction of vessels, rigging, sails

and equipment;

- Conducting equipment research for the benefit of amateur athletes who participate or can reasonably be expected to participate

in local, regional, national or international yacht racing championships or competitions;

- Establishing and maintaing a fund which will provide financial support to our member clubs, associations, or organizations to

aid them in furthering the sport of sailing and sailboat racing and to provide support to amateur athletes who participate or can

can reasonably be expected to participate, in local regional, national or international yacht racing champioships or competitions;

- And engaging in any other lawful activites not otherwise prohibited by the State of Maine Statutes may be necessary or

incidental to effect the above stated purposes

The Corporation shall act in an advisory capacity when so requested by its member clubs and associations and shall render such other services in the interest of sailing and sportsmanship as may come within its authority and jurisdiction.

The corporation shall maintain membership in the United States Sailing Association

As the district representative of the United States Sailing Association, the corporation shall sponsor its elimination series amongst member clubs and associations.

It will sponsor such other races and events as authorized by the Board of Directors.

The Corporation shall not conduct or carry on any activities not permitted to be conducted or carried on by an organization exempt from taxation under Section 501(c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code and the Regulations thereunder as they may not exist or as they may hereafter be amended or by an organization, contributions to which they are deductible under Section

170(c) (2) of the Internal Revenue Code and the Regulations thereunder as they may now exist or as they may hereafter be amended.

ARTICLE III. MEMBERSHIP

Section 1. Existing Yacht Clubs, Sailing Clubs and racing associations. 

Section 2. Such clubs and associations as may be admitted from time to time by action of the Board of Directors. 

Section 3.  Individual members who are members of a recognized yacht club or association. 

Section 4. No person shall be denied the right to participate in any event within the jurisdiction of the Association or to manage or otherwise be involved in the participation of such event, or having so participated shall suffer any penalty for having participated, on grounds of race, color, religion, age, sex or national origin provided this section shall not prevent the conduct of separate events for males and females, and separate events for juniors.  

Section 5. Individual members shall have the privilege of attending all general meetings and shall receive all printed matter issued by the corporation.

Section 6. The membership of any club or association in the Northeast Sailing Association, may be forfeited by voluntarily written withdrawal, by disbandment, or by a two-thirds vote of all other clubs and associations. 

Section 7. Yacht clubs, Sailing clubs, associations, and individuals may make application for membership on such application forms as may be determined by the Board of Directors. Application forms may be obtained by writing to the Secretary of the corporation.
